the randomness of life

Divergence

I consider myself lucky as I was able to visit and appreciate the wonderful pieces of art at the MCAD Exhibit that was displayed in the DLS-CSB SDA Campus. The displays fascinated me that I actually visited the exhibit seven times. I was able to look at every art forms there is (I wasn’t able to watch the whole videos of some documentaries though). But there will be that one piece that you would always remember that you can’t help but connect yourself to it.

Dialogues on Discrepancy by Piyasak Ausup.

Those on the periphery seem more vulnerable in comparison to those in the center. Piyasak Ausup’s Dialogues on Discrepancy [2012] shows images of violence in the capital. While the latter finds its way into media, the former rarely does. By putting them together, the connection between the two circumstances, the effect of one on the other is manifested

No matter how I look at the other artworks, I can’t appreciate them as much as but I appreciate this photograph ( I mean, don’t get me wrong, all I want to say is that this is my favorite). I was an Editorial Writer back in my Elementary and High School days so you can’t blame me for liking the whole concept of the photograph. The photo is very controversial that it attracted my sense of curiosity at first glance. On my first visit, (the opening) I wasn’t able to stop and appreciate the photo because of the number of people in the place is so many plus I can’t ask any of the curators about the story because they are too busy handling their tour groups. That’s why on my second visit, I was able to fill in my curious mind about it. So I found out that there were actually two events happening in that picture. He combined two scenes in this art – the people from the province and from the city of Thailand. It shows that no matter how far both places may seem to each other, they are still connected through Thailand’s economic problems.  Both are in Thailand yet inequality is present. People from the provinces are often forgotten because of the happenings in the city that cover their stories up. Locals from the province are represented by the grey-scaled pictures that tell us how abandoned their lives are and how their current situations are being empowered by the colored picture at the background. At first, it may seem that they are one but as you analyse it further, you will notice that they are different events. The artist tells us that there is a way to equalize the affluent and deprived – through art.  Even if it’s just a picture, it deeply tells us that we, after all, are one and the same. It just varies and depends in one’s perspective.

I can fully say that this is widely happening in our country. With all the economic issues uprising, there is no doubt that most of the provinces are being neglected and left alone. Their needs are neither given nor heard. And if the media are not doing their part, I’m afraid we would NEVER know their situations. The photograph perfectly describes the un-democracy-ness in the Philippines. Telling us that the citizens are the one who hold the government yet they are actually hiding behind those walls doing malicious and hateful things that completely affect the Filipino community. The problem is, most of them just don’t care about the condition of our fellow Filipino who indeed suffer from being neglected. They hear it yet ignore the fact that they can actually do something about it. As for example, the catastrophes that are happening in the provinces, regarding the typhoon, greatly affect our lives here in the city. But if the media people weren’t there covering the calamity, some of the people here in the city might have just ignored it. Through this, I can point out that the photograph by Piyasak Ausup itself tells us that media is important for us to connect each other as one country.

There’s this documentary that I have watched. The reporters went to the top ten most neglected provinces in the Philippines and they would let a representative of that province to write about what he personally need or what the community needs. As the reporter’s journey continued, they found out the common problems or dilemma that every province need:

–       Some of them can’t write that they just drew what they wish for the government to give them.

–       They want and need a clean water source.

–       They need to repair the schools and other infrastructure that helps them improve their community.

But what struck me the most is when a man was asked to write down what he needs. The man refused and said, “ Hindi na po ako hihiling sa kanila ma’am. Matagal na po akong nawalan ng pag-asa sa kanila eh.”

We can do our parts into creating equality amongst us, the Filipino citizen. We must create a bridge of communication through the effective leadership of our government. Yes, the provinces may be too far from us but they are still there – waiting for their voices to be heard. These are just some of the wishes that they want to happen. I can’t directly say that we must personally give it to them but these should be at least heard. I’m afraid we must remove the inequality in our country before worse comes to worst.

isn’t it great?

Almost everyone can access the Internet now. That includes the use of various social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr and many more. I think it’s just our own personal way of showing what we are to others.

As for me, I have my Facebook and Twitter account. I have those to connect and socialize. Actually, this blog I’m using is a school project. But because of the posts and all those cool stuff, I chose to keep my blog and use it.

This is my current cover photo in Facebook (they’re all my close friends). I used it not just because it’s pretty cool but because of the memories we had that night. We’re not actually the “maarte” type of barkada so it was just very unusual having this picture of us taken. It’s like doing something different and I like that.

Every man has his own quirks and twists.

These are my pictures from Facebook. They show the side of me that my friends enjoy to be with — crazy, outgoing, fun. I don’t usually hide pictures like these (even if I get ugly stolen shots) because it is me. Having fun is letting yourself out. So my tip, just go out there and be crazy without forgetting who you really are.

Just as what I say on my twitter bio, “Just as crazy as you want me to be”

I like to capture landscapes and/or candid moments than those of selfies (I don’t know. I’m just not that type).  But of course I do take pictures of myself sometimes. When editing images, I don’t usually use filters. But when I do, I use phone apps like Pxlr-o-matic and Little Photo. I also use Gimp because that’s where I can easily manipulate pictures.

I chose pink and grey for my blog because I like strawberries a lot so I kinda liked shades of pink too. It also shows the “girly-girly” part of me that you won’t usually see on a normal day basis. My blog name: thecertainlysillyceline. Well I don’t really have to elaborate that. I AM silly (in a good way).

I am not much of a blogger but I can feel them wanting to post pictures, poems and stories. It’s their own unique way of letting other people know them. As I’ve said, I don’t usually use my blog so I’ll just tell you how important my Facebook account is: With Facebook, I can update my friends what’s happening, share cool pictures, connect with many different users. My account lets me share what I feel and it makes me happy. Yes, not as happy like you won the lottery or something but happy like giving yourself a time-out from all the stress we get.

To sum it all up, Blogging, using Facebook or Twitter has already been a part of our human nature. We cannot change that. After all, we’re just going with the flow with what life has given to all of us. Isn’t that great?
